Common questions

How do I install the APK?
  1. Download the file from the download section.
  2. Open it from your downloads. Android will say it can't install apps from unknown sources.
  3. Tap Settings on that prompt and enable the permission for your browser or file manager.
  4. Go back and install. Done.

This is completely normal: it's the same mechanism used by every app that isn't published on the store yet.

How do I back up my data? (please do)

Go to Settings → Export Backup. The app produces a complete copy of your database and lets you save or share it wherever you like: Drive, WhatsApp, email, a USB stick.

Do it before every update. Updating doesn't erase anything, but a backup costs you ten seconds and covers you against any accident.

Will I lose my data when the app updates?

No. Installing a new version over the previous one keeps everything: notes, finances, reminders and settings.

What does wipe your data is uninstalling the app. If you ever need to uninstall, export a backup first.

A reminder didn't fire

It's almost always Android's battery optimisation, which suspends the app and stops it from waking up. The fix:

  1. Android Settings → Apps → Mi Apunte.
  2. Open Battery and choose Unrestricted.
  3. Check under Notifications that the permission is granted.

On Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung this setting tends to be more hidden and more aggressive — look for "autostart" or "protected apps".

Receipt scanning misread the data

It helps a lot to take the photo in good light, with the receipt flat (no creases or folds) and fully in frame, without cropping the total.

If it still misreads, just correct the field by hand before saving. Scanning only pre-fills for you — it never decides. Very blurry receipts, faded thermal paper or unusual typefaces can trip it up.

This feature is currently Android-only.

How do I change the language?

Under Settings → Language. Spanish, English and French are available, and the switch is immediate.

I forgot the password to a protected note

There's no way to recover it. The password is stored as a hash — not even I can read it, which is exactly what makes it safe.

If you lose a note's password, its content becomes inaccessible. That's why it's worth using protection only on the notes that genuinely need it.

How do I delete all my data?

Since Mi Apunte stores nothing on any server, there's nothing to request and nobody to request it from: you delete the data yourself and it's gone immediately and completely.

Android Settings → Apps → Mi Apunte → Storage → Clear data. Or simply uninstall the app.

About your privacy: Mi Apunte collects none of your data, which means that when you email me I have no way to see your notes or your finances. If you're reporting a bug, walk me through the steps to reproduce it — and please don't send me your backup file unless I explicitly ask for it. Details in the privacy policy.
